This list is somewhat problematic…does “pop” refer to the type of stuff that they play to death on the radio or does it really mean “popular”? And how much of the stuff on the radio is popular because they have played it to death?

Alessi Laurent-Marke is one of those young girls that put some of her folk songs up on MySpace and got handed a record deal. She is also a female singer-songwriter from the British Isles, and, by default, joins the ranks of artists like Laura Marling, Amy Winehouse, Emmy the Great, Adele, Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Duffy and KT Tunstall.

Lily Allen says: It’s Not Me, It’s You

Lily Allen is back after three years with her (wonderfully-titled) sophomore release, It’s Not Me, It’s You. Her dark sense of humor is intact and the overly cheesy lyrics are gone on this album…you can tell that she’s matured during her time away. And with the help of Greg Kurstin (from The Bird and the Bee) the music has grown up as well.
