Alexx Calise - In Avanti
In Avanti is the second solo album from singer-songwriter Alexx Calise and Alexx herself forwarded us a copy of the album to review. Her music has elements of pop, rock, angst, electronica and heartbreak, but the prominent feature is definitely rock. Alexx is originally from Florida, but she has relocated to Los Angeles to (presumably) focus more directly on her music career.

Best Song of January 2009
January didn’t produce very many noteworthy songs (or albums, really,) and, unfortunately, the best one (The Bird and the Bee’s “Polite Dance Song”) was actually released for the first time in 2007, effectively disqualifying it for this title.

Erin McCarley - Love, Save the Empty
Erin McCarley already has songs featured in a few television shows (and a movie) and her song “Pony (It's OK)” was picked as the first iTunes single of the week for 2009. Her music seems almost perfectly suited to be the inconspicuous background ambience in a teen drama and maybe that’s why she’s been fast-tracked into the spotlight.
