That Pitchfork Sound
There are several bands that I cannot seem to get into and most of them seem to be nearly universally liked by the public at large. The first examples that spring to mind are Animal Collective, Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, St. Vincent, Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver, and Fleet Foxes.

Best Song of January 2009
January didn’t produce very many noteworthy songs (or albums, really,) and, unfortunately, the best one (The Bird and the Bee’s “Polite Dance Song”) was actually released for the first time in 2007, effectively disqualifying it for this title.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
The cover art on this album is a great optical illusion that, if Wikipedia is to be believed, is based on the works of Japanese psychologist Akiyoshi Kitaoka. This illusion is what originally caught my attention and I can say, without reservation, that it is the best thing about this album.
