Top 2 “Play All the Way Through” Albums of 2008
I’d really like to have another describing term for these albums, but I couldn’t really think of a word that fit. These days it seems more rare to encounter a release that is consistent all the way through. There is almost always some track that just doesn’t work as well as the others on an album.

Top 3 Electronic Albums of 2008
Electronic music used to be a larger facet in my life, but then it began to get too incestuous and uninteresting. This caused an enormous upswing in the amount of girly music and indie rock in my musical diet, but the desire to groove to electronic music has never really gone away. It just seems like there’s less good stuff out there than there used to be.

Top 3 Overrated Albums of 2008
There were quite a few albums that showed up multiple times when I cross-referenced the best albums of 2008 and this list is skewed against the ones that were on the most Top 10 lists. The other criterion is that I didn’t like them, but they are only scored by frequency of recommendation…I dislike these all equally and I’m sharing this information to further elucidate my musical tastes.

Top 3 Pop Albums of 2008
Pop music doesn’t really appeal to me very much, but, because I have such an obsession with female vocalists, I sometimes find myself listening to it. Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” was the best pop song that I encountered in 2008, but her album didn’t make it to this list. You might also notice that Britney Spears didn’t make the list.

Top 3 Hip-Hop Albums of 2008
Hip-hop is definitely one of my musical weak points, but not because I don’t like it. It’s just incredibly difficult to find anything that is lyrically good AND musically good. One or the other just doesn’t cut it for me.

Some bands like to release EPs, but they don’t seem to be very popular. I’m not sure why this is because they seem to be an almost perfect length.

Top 5 Singer-Songwriters of 2008
This is my list of the top 5 artists that write, compose and sing their own music. “Singer-Songwriter” in this case doesn’t necessarily mean female musical artist, but it seems like girls are more likely than guys to be placed into this category.

Top 10 Albums of 2008
Perhaps I was just a tad too scientific when I decided to compile my list of the best albums of 2008, but since I’ve never assembled a top 10 list before I wanted to be careful…and thorough. So I waited until all of the major players had published their lists and then I cross-referenced them all against each other and singled out the albums that were mentioned multiple times.
