Top 3 EPs of 2008

Some bands like to release EPs, but they don’t seem to be very popular. I’m not sure why this is because they seem to be an almost perfect length. Wikipedia states that: “Usually, an EP has around 10–28 minutes of music, a single has up to 10 minutes, and an album generally has 30–80 minutes.” In my experience, singles have pretty much always been useless, but EPs frequently have some good stuff on them. Plus…if more bands produced EPs we would probably have less time to wait between releases. Here are the Top 3 EPs from 2008:
3. The Bird and the Bee – Live from Las Vegas at the Palms EP
Live from Las Vegas? I wish I had known about this show because I would have loved to experience this in person. “Preparedness” and the bossa nova version of “Again and Again” are the highlights here.
2. Coldplay – Prospekt’s March EP
Prospekt’s March contains several tracks weren’t completed in time to be included on Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends and a few other songs that have been reworked. Apparently these songs are also available in a deluxe version of the main album, but since everyone already bought the regular version they released an EP. The highlight is either “Glass of Water” or Jay-Z on “Lost +”…I can’t decide.
1. Laura Marling – Cross Your Fingers EP
Laura Marling was only 18 years old when she released Alas, I Cannot Swim, and this EP contains the album version of the title track and a couple new songs. The live versions “Tap At My Window” and “Cross Your Fingers” (with the “Crawled Out of the Sea” interlude) are the best part this release though.
