The Honey Trees will Wake the Earth

Jacob Wick & Becky Filip of the Honey Trees

The Honey Trees are an indie band from Sacramento, California and their seven song EP, Wake the Earth, was released on March 10, 2009. Becky Filip started the Honey Trees project in 2004, but Jacob Wick did not become a part of the equation until 2008 and this EP is the first thing that they have produced together as a band. The band has three additional touring members (Aaron Wick, Aaron Coleman and Kevin Foster) when they play live, but the writing is done by the core duo.

All seven songs on Wake the Earth are enjoyable and twenty-six minutes of music doesn’t seem like enough. Filip sounds a lot like one of the girls from Eisley, and, if that comparison is not already tiresome to the band, it soon will be, but that doesn’t make it any less true. As far as individual songs go, “Through Your Eyes” is the standout track on the album, but “Orchard” is not far behind it. The others all reside on a similar level just a bit below that.

84%

Wake the Earth was recorded over the course of eight days at Art House America in Nashville with the help of a close friend, Jason Massy, and Mark Diccico, who engineered for them. Charlie Peacock, the studio owner, helped them get sponsors from Sapere Fund to cover the studio costs, mixing and mastering and even their traveling expenses. The Honey Trees are currently planning to tour (and write!) as much as possible, so we will hopefully get a chance to hear a full-length from them or see a live show pretty soon. The lucky ones will get both.
