Donkey Punch

If there was ever a name of a film that by its very nature would make someone not want to see it… Donkey Punch is that film. It starts innocently enough with three girls on their vacation in another country getting ready to go out and have as much fun as possible. Then they meet some guys and things start to go wrong. Okay… there are a number of events that take place before the bad things start happening and, admittedly, this wouldn’t have been much of a story without the bad stuff, so it does serve a purpose.
Before things take a turn for the worse there is drinking and drugs and a surprisingly believable group sex scene… that gets cut short by the moment that the filmmakers have set you up to expect before you even start watching the movie. The group sex scene is actually kind of a beautiful moment ...until the realization kicks in and you start thinking, “Oh my god, they’re really going to ruin this… no, no, oh my god, no.” And then, at that exact moment, the movie completely changes into what is easily the most brutal collection of violence to appear onscreen since the remake of The Hills Have Eyes.

Once they alter course, the movie continues full speed on its new heading until the very end. There are a couple times when the characters act somewhat unrealistically just to keep the story moving forward, but no more so than any other film in this genre. This is definitely not your average boat ride, but you should be happy enough with what they’ve done here… as long as you know what kind of ride to expect.
