Best Song of March 2009

Each month in 2009 seems to produce more good music than the one before it…this could be a dangerous trend. The candidates this month were narrowed down to five: Pure Reason Revolution with “ii) Apogee iii) Requiem For The Lovers,” Miss Li’s “True Love Stalker,” Julie Doiron with “Heavy Snow,” Mirah’s “The Forest” and “New Life” by O + S. Some of these songs are so different that it’s difficult to make comparisons…the slow vibe of “New Life” is just about as far away from the intense sonic assault of “ii) Apogee iii) Requiem For The Lovers” as it’s possible to get. There are many similarities between these songs as well, but that doesn’t make comparisons easier either. Still…it really all comes down to opinion and personal taste (you might notice a few trends in the stuff that I like) and only one song can be the best for the month.
This time it was the crunchy guitars and driving drums and Mirah’s beautiful voice. And those Spanish style horns also brought something to the mix…even though they might be annoying soon because they seem to be so popular and will probably become overused. Anyway…the best song of March is “The Forest” by Mirah.
