Best Song of June 2009

There were nine songs in June that rose to the top of the bunch. The mellow group consists of “Revenge” by Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse, Moby’s “Shot In The Back Of The Head” and “Hit the Wall” by Elizabeth and the Catapult. The transition songs are “Fresh Blood” by Eels, Placebo’s “Battle for the Sun” and “Hard Times” by Patrick Wolf. The heavier group is made up of “Ghetto Love” by Spinnerette, Street Sweeper Social Club’s “Fight! Smash! Win!” and “Heavy Cross” by Gossip. Narrowing these down by groups leaves “Hit the Wall” by Elizabeth and the Catapult, Patrick Wolf with “Hard Times” and “Ghetto Love” by Spinnerette. Elizabeth and the Catapult put up a good fight, but the higher energy wins out this time. “Ghetto Love” by Spinnerette is the best song of June.
Honorable mentions go out to the reworked version of “Jamming” by Bob Marley, which sounds like it’s actually jamming for once, and the excellent cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Waiting Around To Die” by The Lemonheads.
